Upper Elementary Grades thru College
"Oasis in Space" is a program that takes you on a grand tour through our solar system in search of liquid water. The program opens with a universe full of galaxies. You then move on to the galaxy in which we live where you will witness the formation of our solar system. You will learn of the importance of liquid water to life as we know it and see the vital part that liquid water played in the formation of our earth. Before you are taken on a grand tour of our solar system, you will pause to look at the sky as it is seen from earth. You will see constellations representative of each season, and learn about the separation within the solar system of earth-like planets and gas giant planets. You will discover that most of the moons in our solar system belong to the gas giant planets and the earth's moon is most unusual in our solar system. You will then be taken on a trip that begins with the planet Mercury and continues on to Pluto before returning to Earth. At each planet, a search is made for the existence of liquid water. You will see the cratered and barren landscape of Mercury, and peer through the dense clouds of Venus to see its barren surface. You will see the wind swept plains of the planet Mars, the giant red spot on Jupiter, and a close-up view of Saturn's rings. The atmosphere of Uranus is presented as well as the frozen surface of Pluto. When you finally return to Earth, you will have discovered that the earth is truly an "Oasis in Space."
